The MissionThe Lary Project is committed to supporting and representing people with voice disorders throughout the UK.

The Lary Project aspires to create a sustainable organisation that brings together people with voice disorders to improve their lives. The following ideas underlie the project:

  • The importance of community – Isolation is a  significant issue for people experiencing voice problems yet to date no real community for the voice impaired has existed. In response, The Lary Project operates an online forum and self-help meetings for those with voice disorders. This community is the foundation of the organisation and the key to achieving the overall goal of improving the lives of sufferers.
  • Individual problems require individual solutions – The Lary Project assists individuals to manage the impact of voice disorders by providing a information, emotional support and career guidance service via "voice friendly" email.
  • New types of information are required for people with voice disorders - The Lary Project's online and offline information resources are unique, written with the input of sufferers and have at their heart the aim of improving the management of both the physical and social impact of voice disorders.
  • Raising awareness of voice disorders is key to both improving the lives of sufferers and preventing new cases – Voice disorders have a very low profile.  The Lary Project therefore publishes articles, campaigns and strives to bring voice disorders to the attention of the wider world.

Over time it is hoped the voice impaired will enjoy the levels of recognition and understanding of other disabilities and impairments. Sufferers will have higher levels of employment, better physical and mental health and lead generally more fulfilled lives. It is also hoped The Lary Project will further the prevention of voice disorders.
