Hi- another new member
« on: January 26, 2010, 08:20:56 PM »

Hi everyone

after spending a lot of time wondering why there isn't anything like this out there and feeling very alone, I spotted a poster in the hospital and decided to take a look online.

I'm really looking forward to chatting to other people and sharing similar experiences.

I'm based in London and would also be interested in LARY meetings.

Hi Rebecca, welcome to the forum!

we're very small in number but gradually growing - some people see the posters others find it through search engines, I'm not aware of anywhere else for people with voice problems to make contact and of course it's easier to communicate online than by speech. It's difficult living with voice loss and something some of us have had longer to come to terms with than others but even those that have had it a long time come up against frustrations that other people just don't understand. I was in the pub last night in a big crowd of people and just couldn't make myself heard - although everyone is very nice and some of them know about my voice problem it's still hard not to feel a bit stupid, especially when you can see the pained expressions where they pretend they can hear!

there's a meeting on the 27th Feb so hope to see you there

Hi everyone I am so glad to have found this forum.  I'm really new to this (my first time to blog) I have lost my voice due to thyroid surgery on march 2, 2010.  My surgeon performed an endoscopy yesterday and reported my vocal cords were fine.  Still I can not talk above a whisper.  I hope everyone is doing well.  Thanks for letting me join.

Hi Pharball,

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear you are having difficulties after your thyroid op. It is so frustrating when you're trying to make yourself heard and all that comes out is a whisper. You're amongst people here, who understand what it's like to struggle to be heard and the anxieties that go along with that. I hope you find the support you need here. I hope that with time, you'll find that your voice will start to improve.  You might find the support group meetings helpful, if your interested in this you can find out more by emailing meetings@lary.org.uk.  Take care.

Best wishes
Peacelily

Yes welcome! I really hope your voice recovers soon, but in the meantime you'll be able to make contact with other people who understand what it's like to struggle with their voice and might be able to give you some tips on how to manage. QV

Hi to Pharball & Rebecca

Welcome from me as well. The forum may seem a little quiet at times, but my own reolution as been to visit more. Pharball, like you I suffered voice problems after a Thyroidectomy caused by nerve damage, has you surgeon referred you to an ENT specialist yet? It may be something he has missed that an ENT specialist may spot.

Rebecca,
How do your voice problems affect you?
